HOLROYD HIGH SCHOOL CHESS CLUB

Holroyd High School students enjoy a very active and large Chess Club. More than 150 students participate in Chess Club activities every year.
Most students play at the Club in the School Library at lunchtime. On a normal day there are 20 to 50 students at the club. The club is open every day and all our students can play as often as they choose. Some students also play at recess and even before school. Students can play a game with anyone who wants to play with them.
Some Holroyd students also choose to represent the school at a regional event once a term during school hours. This competition allows students to play at their own level and have a real chance to win a trophy. Fairfield & Chess Club Pics
Every year, Holroyd Chess Teams play against other schools in the NSW Junior Chess League Interschool competition. We play after school on Fridays in Term 2, sometimes at other schools and sometimes back at Holroyd. This competition really helps players develop their chess to higher levels.
Last year, we also offered students a coaching program at the club with International Chess Grandmaster Dejan Antic. It was a great success which we plan to repeat. Grandmaster Tutoring pics.
Students who regularly participate in the Chess Club or represent the school receive certificates. Their participation is also noted on their semester school Progress Reports.
So if you’re at Holroyd High one day, drop into the library and check out the Chess Club! You’ll be welcome to join us for a game. Fairfield & Chess Club Pics.
